Chapter 27
Zachary remained silent. The person who had caused the scratch on Duncan’s car was his new sister-in-law. Zachary had never met her before.
“It’s getting late, Mr. York. I’m heading to bed,” Serenity said, breaking the silence.
Even though Serenity had reassured her sister that everything would be fine, she couldn’t shake the unease that came with not knowing how much the damages would cost. She said goodnight to Zachary and made her way to her room.
By the time Zachary opened his mouth to speak, Serenity had already disappeared into her room.
The flowers on the balcony… Serenity would take care of them in the morning. However, Zachary felt a strange sensation in the pit of his stomach, as if he was waiting for some sort of praise for his actions.
Just as he was about to settle into his thoughts, Serenity reappeared in the doorway. “Mr. York, I noticed you bought the washing machine. How much did it cost?”
“I spent seven thousand on two washing machines,” Zachary replied.
Serenity compared it to the one at her sister’s house and, after a quick assessment, found the price reasonable. She didn’t comment further.
“Serenity,” Zachary called, just as she was about to close the door.
“The issue with your sister isn’t a problem. If she’s short on money, just let me know. I’m happy to lend her some,” he added.
