Grandma May chuckled, clearly amused by Serenity’s blush. “I’m not asking you to do anything drastic, Seren. I just think if you two get to know each other better, it might help. You can’t build a relationship on just being strangers. Maybe try talking to him more, learn about his quirks, and who knows, you might even grow fond of him.”
Serenity sighed, her mind still focused on the contract. It was hard to imagine building anything meaningful with Zachary, especially given the terms of their marriage. But Nana’s words stayed with her. Maybe there was something she hadn’t considered, a chance to see him in a different light.
“I’ll try, Nana,” Serenity said softly, folding the paper back up and placing it on the counter. “But we’ve got our own set of boundaries. I’m not going to force anything that’s not there.”
Grandma May smiled kindly, placing a hand on Serenity’s. “I know, Seren. Just don’t shut him out completely. Give him a chance.”
Serenity nodded, still unsure, but willing to at least consider the possibility. As they sat there, the sound of the door jingled, and Jasmine walked back in, her arms full of shopping bags.
