Chapter 89
Back at the bookshop near Wiltspoon School, Serenity sat behind the cash register, casually scrolling through her phone to catch up on the news while Jasmine was immersed in a romance novel. As the owner of the bookshop, Jasmine had the luxury of exploring every book she wanted, which was the perk of doing what she loved for a living. Having read nearly every romance novel in the shop, Jasmine was often teased by Serenity to consider becoming a writer, especially since she was such a fan of chick lit.
“Seren, the main characters in this story got married at first sight too,” Jasmine said with a smile, as she put down the book. “Just like you.” Serenity glanced over at her and responded with a raised eyebrow.
“Lots of people get married after dating for a short time. Well, you did say the female character in that book blindly married a billionaire. My husband is just a wage earner,” Serenity quipped, although she had to admit Zachary, being a senior white-collar worker in a major group, wasn’t exactly poor. Still, he worked for someone else.
“You might want to cut down on reading,” Serenity teased. “I think the stories are getting a little over your head. You’ll never find Mr. Right because you’ll compare real-life men to the fictional male leads. The irresistible CEOs only exist in books.” Jasmine laughed but didn’t seem too bothered by Serenity’s comments.
“I’m just passing the time with these books,” she replied with a shrug. “I don’t have a knack for crafting like you.” Jasmine put her book down and pulled out her phone to scroll through the latest updates. She had a preference for tabloid news and always checked the trending updates on her favorite site.
One particular article caught Jasmine’s attention, and she exclaimed, “Seren, check out Twitter.”
“What’s the big news?” Serenity glanced at her but didn’t show much interest. Although she had a Twitter account, she didn’t pay much attention to it, given that her followers were mostly loyal customers who were interested in her crafts.
