Chapter 92
Liberty was seething with frustration as her husband, Hank, continued to rant. “Don’t worry. I won’t get you involved,” she snapped back, trying to rein in her emotions. “After everything I’ve done to cut ties with my relatives, I had no intention of staying in touch with them. It’s them who won’t leave me and Serenity alone. They want us to pay for Grandmom’s medical bills.”
Realizing his tone had been too harsh, Hank softened. “Liberty, you can write a tweet to clear the air. I’ll pay for professional trolling to hype your post. You must refute their claims. Don’t let them twist the story around.”
Hank, despite his issues with Liberty, couldn’t deny that her relatives had always been manipulative, spreading lies. When he and Liberty had gotten married, her relatives had intimidated him into paying them a large sum of money, threatening not to let the marriage happen unless he did. Hank knew firsthand how ruthless they could be. He also understood that Liberty had endured a tough life, always holding her head high without airing out the dirty laundry of her past, even though she despised her relatives.
“Seren and I will handle this. Don’t worry. You won’t get caught in the crossfire. Worst comes to worst, we can divorce if they come after you for money. That way, they won’t be able to target you since you’ll have nothing to do with me,” Liberty said firmly.
