Chapter 105
Chapter Title: The Meeting at Wilson Golf Club
Sean had never seen this side of Myra before. As her calm and resolute demeanor cut through the tension in the room, an unexpected feeling tugged at his chest—a strange sort of pity. But he quickly shut it down, reminding himself that she was the same woman who had recently revealed her true intentions. He couldn’t afford to feel sorry for her. No, she was wicked, deceitful—how could he possibly sympathize with someone like that?
“So you’re not admitting to what you’ve done?” Sean’s expression remained as unmoving as a still pond, his eyes cold and distant. “Make the police report if you want. Whatever it is, I’ll never admit to something I didn’t do. Never.”
Myra didn’t respond. Instead, she turned away, her heels clicking against the floor as she marched toward the door. She didn’t want to be in this place a second longer. The elevator dinged as it stopped on her floor, and the doors opened to reveal Eve, rushing out in a flurry.
Before Eve could even make out who was standing there, Myra quickly stepped inside and pressed the button, effectively shutting herself off from the world. By the time Eve realized what had just happened, the elevator doors had already closed, and the lift was speeding downward.
Inside the room, the atmosphere was thick with unease. Everyone stood in silence, exchanging looks of confusion and discomfort. Eve, who had caught a fleeting glimpse of a woman standing next to her son, Lyla, immediately understood what had transpired.
Without hesitation, she walked over to Lyla and slapped her across the face.
Lyla staggered back in shock, her plans to make Eve aware of the situation thwarted by Myra’s sudden departure. She had intended to let Eve discover the full extent of the trouble Myra had caused, but now Myra had left without even giving her a chance.
“What are you doing, Mom?!” Sean’s voice dropped in shock, his anger now focused on his mother.
Eve shot him a murderous look, her fury building. “What the hell is she doing here, Sean?” She couldn’t hold back the disdain in her voice. “You bring home a tramp like this—no wonder you’re having problems with Myra! If it weren’t for this woman causing trouble, you wouldn’t be so stubborn about everything. And now this breach of our company’s private information? It has to be her doing as well!”
Sean’s face darkened. “Mom, don’t… You don’t understand—”
“Understand?!” Eve interjected, her voice dripping with venom. “This is the woman who’s been poisoning everything! Do you think she’s innocent in all this? No, she’s the one causing the rift between you and Myra!”
Meanwhile, on the ground floor, Tilly had spotted Myra exiting the elevator. Concern flooded her features as she rushed over, her eyes scanning Myra’s face for signs of distress.
“What’s wrong, Miss Stark? Are you okay?” she asked, her voice laced with genuine concern.
Tilly had been kidnapped by construction workers the night before and had given her statement to the police. After hearing about the commotion back at the office, she had rushed over to make sure Myra was all right, especially since she had been caught in the mess surrounding the construction site.
However, what she didn’t expect was the revelation that Myra was married to the Director of their company. That bit of information stunned her, and as she thought about the circulating photo, she began to piece things together.
“I’m fine,” Myra responded, her voice betraying none of the turmoil inside her. She forced a smile, but it didn’t quite reach her eyes. “I didn’t do any of the things they’re accusing me of. So I’m not afraid of their accusations.”
Despite her calm words, Tilly could sense that Myra was far from fine. Something deeper was troubling her.
“Are you sure? About the construction site…” Tilly’s voice trailed off as she hesitated, unsure if Myra wanted to talk. “Did you tell them the truth?”
Myra shook her head, her thoughts racing. “Would anyone believe me?” she asked bitterly. “The evidence against me is solid—there’s even a photo. How could I convince them otherwise?”
Tilly looked at Myra with concern. “I’m sorry, Miss Stark. But if you want to talk, I’m here. I’ll make sure you get heard.”
Myra nodded, but her face remained drawn. “I’m not feeling well right now. My head’s all over the place. I need some time alone.”
