Chapter 110
Chapter Title: The Tension Escalates
As Tony sat in the back of the car, his thoughts raced, each one pulling him in a different direction. The tension between his professional obligations and his personal feelings for Myra was reaching a boiling point. Myra had come to rely on him, and he had grown accustomed to being her source of support. But now, she was upset, and for the first time, Tony wasn’t sure how to handle it.
Would she still lean on him if she knew everything? Could she accept his help after everything that had happened? Tony couldn’t help but wonder if this was the moment when it all fell apart. The pull between duty and his emotions felt stronger than ever.
Elliot, sensing the shift in the atmosphere, leaned forward, breaking the silence. “Tony,” he said, his voice light but tinged with curiosity, “Old Master Hart called me earlier. He wants you to get back to him ASAP. Something’s up.”
Tony exhaled sharply, his fingers twitching slightly as he held the cigarette. He had heard the message clearly, but his mind was elsewhere. The buzzing of his phone, now vibrating with constant notifications, seemed to add to the growing tension. He wasn’t in the mood for distractions, especially not now.
“I’ll call him back later,” Tony replied coldly, his eyes still fixed on the road ahead. But Elliot wasn’t convinced.
“Are you sure you don’t want to call him now?” Elliot pushed. “It could be important.”
Tony didn’t respond right away, his thoughts lost in a swirl of conflicting emotions. He was stuck between wanting to take control of the situation and the fear that letting Myra in too close would only make everything worse. He wasn’t sure if he was doing the right thing. What if she found out everything? The manipulations, the lies—what would she think of him then?
His mind shifted again, now focusing on Myra. Every time he thought of her, a wave of guilt washed over him. There was a part of him that felt protective toward her, even though he knew deep down that he was part of the mess she was caught in. He had stepped in to save her once, but that had only complicated matters further. What would she do if she learned the truth? Would she still see him as the ally she had grown to trust?
Elliot seemed to pick up on Tony’s distraction. “It’s obvious that something’s bothering you, Tony. You haven’t been this out of it in ages,” he said, his voice playful but probing.
Tony didn’t respond at first. The car continued to move through the city streets, but his mind was miles away, tangled in thoughts of Myra.
His phone buzzed again, signaling a new message. Without thinking, he glanced at the screen. It was a message from Old Master Hart, but he didn’t have the mental energy to deal with it just yet. His fingers hovered over the screen, but he didn’t respond.
“Tell them to keep an eye on Myra,” Tony finally said, his voice low and cold. “If anything happens, I want to know immediately.”
