Chapter 183
Myra recalled how Kris had always been fond of that villa in Cape District. But the property had always been a treasure Cameron hoarded—it was the most expensive and significant place to him, one he had never allowed Kris to have. So when Cameron mentioned it now, Myra felt disgusted, though a part of her was surprised. She could also understand why Kris had that sour expression when she left his office earlier. However, Myra didn’t think this was a sudden attempt at fatherly affection. She narrowed her eyes at him and said, “Just tell me what this is about, President Stark. Even if you don’t mind beating around the bush, I find it quite exhausting.”
Surprisingly, Cameron didn’t seem offended by her bluntness. Instead, he offered her a resigned smile. “Look at you. I just wanted to make your daily commute easier. Your sister has always wanted that villa, but I’ve kept it for you. Myra, I treat you far better than I treat your sister.”
She kept her expression neutral. “Oh. Since you want to give it to me, just go through the procedures and have someone bring the documents to my office when they’re ready. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be on my way.”
She turned to leave, but Cameron stopped her. “Wait, Myra. There’s something else I need to discuss with you.”
Her wariness grew. Before she could say anything, he continued, “When you left the Chase family, I remember you took fifty percent of Chase Group’s assets in Hilliville. Isn’t that right?”
Her steps faltered for a moment, and then she turned back with a sharp retort, “Which one of my properties are you interested in, President Stark? Since you’re giving me that villa, just tell me which one you like, and I’ll have the changes made and the documents sent over tomorrow.” Her words dripped with sarcasm.
His expression hardened for a brief moment but quickly softened into a smile again. “Myra, as you know, Hilliville is a dead city. That’s what I wanted to discuss with you. Owning that piece of land won’t serve you any purpose. If you’re just going to let it sit there, why not sell it to me instead? I know you’ve been getting into investing lately. Why not take some cash and do as you please with it? What do you say?”
A thought struck her. “How much are you offering for this land?”
Cameron lifted his teacup, taking a sip before answering nonchalantly, “How does a billion sound?”
A billion… The amount was tempting, no doubt. The Stark family owned eighty percent of Stark Group, and the remaining twenty percent was held by outsiders. Myra thought of buying back those shares, but something about Cameron’s confident demeanor made her cautious. She raised an eyebrow. “A billion? Are you sure you’re not throwing that money away on a dead city?”
“Wasting?” Cameron scoffed, his voice laced with a hint of disdain. He stood up and walked toward her. “Myra, having a billion is better than owning a dead city. You can always make more money with money, but what good is a city that doesn’t bring any profit?”
“I don’t know about that, but I do know you never get involved in something that would cost you money. So, why would I sell it to you?” she replied, her smile thin and cold.
Cameron’s expression darkened, but he persisted, “How about I sweeten the deal? Plus five percent of Stark Group’s shares.”
Her steps faltered briefly, but she quickly regained her composure. “President Stark, don’t you realize that the more you offer, the more you’re telling me how valuable that land is? Maybe I should say this more directly: don’t bother with my assets.”
With that, she spun on her heel and walked out of his office, her back straight and resolute.
