Chapter 97
The worker hadn’t seen Eve before and was taken aback by her sudden, loud shout. After a moment of hesitation, she gave Eve an awkward smile and quickly turned to walk away.
Eve, increasingly anxious, immediately tried calling Myra, but her calls went unanswered. It really seems like they might be getting a divorce… Eve’s face went pale with concern. She hurried toward the pantry, pulling out her phone to make an international call. She dialed her son, Sean, desperately needing answers.
“What’s going on, Sean? Didn’t I tell you to convince Myra to come back? What have you done to her? She’s even resigning from the Chase Group now!” Eve’s voice was filled with worry and frustration.
On the other end, Sean’s tone remained surprisingly calm. “Myra and I have decided to get a divorce, Mom.”
“What?! Are you crazy?” Eve was stunned. “A divorce? Are you mad, Sean? How could you do that to Myra?! You need to get back here now!” Her voice was shaky as she tried to process the information.
“I’m in New York, Mom, and I can’t leave right now,” Sean replied, his voice flat. “I’ve been thinking about this for a while. I know you like Myra, but I don’t feel the same way anymore. I hope you can understand my decision.” With that, he ended the call abruptly.
Eve stood frozen, holding the phone in her hand as the call disconnected with a beep. Why did I leave? She thought in panic. I should have stayed and not given them space to ruin their relationship. If I hadn’t listened to Leo… She clenched her teeth, blaming Leo for his interference. He’s just an outsider!
“They can’t get a divorce! They simply can’t!” Eve muttered fiercely to herself as she stormed toward the elevator. As soon as the elevator doors opened, she stepped inside, determined to do something to prevent it. She made her way downstairs, her mind racing.
Lyla, too, was heading down. She’d just emerged from a small room, looking pale and troubled. She had been thinking about Eve and the possibility of her intervening in Sean and Myra’s relationship. What if Eve stops them from getting a divorce? Lyla frowned as she walked down the stairs, not bothering with the elevator.
Once she reached the first floor, she heard loud voices coming from the front desk. Her frown deepened as she approached the source of the commotion. A pretty but obviously agitated woman was arguing with the front desk worker. “Let go of me! I want to see my cousin! Sean’s my cousin—he’s your Director Chase! If you keep stopping me, I’ll get him to fire you!”
Lyla raised an eyebrow, recognizing the woman immediately. It was Sasha, Sean’s cousin. The two of them had never gotten along. Sasha had always looked down on Lyla, and now, here she was, causing a scene.
With a sly smirk, Lyla walked over and instructed the front desk worker to let Sasha go. “It’s been a while, Sasha,” she said with a smooth, almost mocking smile.
Sasha’s face darkened when she saw who it was. She knew about Lyla’s return and her involvement with Sean, and though she disliked Lyla, she hated Myra even more. Ever since the plagiarism scandal and discovering Tony’s feelings for Myra, Sasha had been eager to bring Myra down.
